Senate Passes Highway Funding Extension

(Washington, DC) -- With time and money running out, the Senate has agreed to a Republican plan to extend funding for highway and transit construction through May 2015.
Democrats wanted a shorter extension to force Congress to come up with a long-term funding plan. The Senate passed the measure in a Thursday night session before the five-week summer recess. Without additional funding of the Highway Trust Fund, money for construction projects across the country would have run out in August putting thousands of jobs at risk.
