Mitigation Work Reduces Flooding Issues In Springs

(Colorado Springs, CO) -- Flood mitigation work is helping the Springs cope with heavy rainfall this week. Tim Mitros with the city says the catchment pond for North Douglas Creek at Flying W Ranch caught excess water and debris, minimizing the amount of debris that went into the city's stormwater system. Camp Creek detention pond at the north side of Garden of the Gods Park decreased the speed and flow of water along the Camp Creek drainage. Rain pounded the Pikes Peak region earlier this week, closing U.S. 24.
