Same-Sex Couples Can Extend Health-Insurance Benefits To Partners

(Undated) -- Gay and straight couples who are in civil unions in Colorado can now get health insurance for their partners and dependent children. Mindy Barton is with the GLBT Community Center of Colorado.

Barton says people might not be sure exactly how to make changes in their insurance policies. Same-sex couples started getting civil unions in Colorado in May. The health insurance benefits for the partners and kids of same-sex partners started last week. People with questions or concerns about getting their families signed-up for health insurance can call the GLBT Community Center's legal hotline at 303-282-6524.
