(Colorado Springs, CO) -- The issue over spending local tax money on a key portion of the City for Champions initiative could possibly be left up to voters. During yesterday's Colorado Springs City Council meeting, Councilman Joel Miller said he wants a measure on the ballot in April. It would change the city's charter to require voter approval before public funds are used for any city stadium or events center. The sports and event center is the only portion of the tourism initiative that would need public funding. Mayor Bach tells the "Colorado Springs Gazette" the funding for the stadium project would come from a portion of sales tax collected inside an urban renewal area. He also says the City Council would need to approve that plan.
